The Team

The team, headed by Dick Newell, has an extensive knowledge of the needs of Swifts and the requirements of the construction industry.

The AfS S-Brick is the culmination of many years of research and experience aimed at providing a simple, long-lasting and sustainable solution to reversing the decline of the endangered Swift.

Much of the experience behind the AfS S-Brick was gained through implementing many projects by Action for Swifts over the last 20 years.

    Dick Newell

    A lifetime birdwatcher has applied his experience as an engineer and software designer to the problem of halting the decline of Swifts.

  • S Brick Action for Swifts Bill Murrells

    Bill Murrells 1938-2024

    After a lifetime in the building industry, Bill brought his deep knowledge of building construction to the team. In 1995, he was one of the founders of Concern for Swifts, a forerunner of Action for Swifts and will be sadly missed.

    Simon Evans

    Bird ringer extraordinaire, has been instrumental in the recovery of the Barn Owl in Suffolk by installing hundreds of nest boxes across the county. He now runs the AfS S-Brick factory in Bury St Edmunds.

    With a wide background in conservation and marketing, Becky runs day to day activities

  • Jim Wynn

    With a background in production, process and manufacture, Jim heads up the Norfolk-based AfS S-Brick factory as Production Manager.
